Improvements made to Maidencombe Footpaths

The work carried out includes renewing signage, stiles and gates, improving drainage, opening up viewpoints and providing new interpretation boards which now show local circular walks.

It has been recognised that access to the countryside is important for people’s health and wellbeing and this work has ensured that residents and visitors who walk this area will enjoy the extensive number of paths around Maidencombe.

Councillor Robert Excell, Executive Lead for Community Services, said “I am delighted that this work has been completed and I have no doubt that it will make a real difference to both local residents and tourists using the paths.”

Chris Lingard, Countryside Manager at Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust said “As managers of the land in this area, we are pleased to have been able to deliver significant improvements to the well used paths on behalf of Torbay Council.”

The Funding for this work has come from a planning obligation from the redevelopment of the nearby Suite Dreams Country Hotel to form 10 flats.

This work has also contributed to the delivery of the Torbay Green Infrastructure Plan, which includes objectives to improve access and interpretation in this area.
