Can you help locate injured seal last seen off Brixham?

The public have been asked to help located an injured seal in South Devon.

The seal was photographed with a spear type object embedded in it’s back. There are concerns that the seal, believed to be female could be pregnant.

Locals have said that the seal is still in the Brixham area and has been seen eating.

If the seal is seen, the public have been asked to call British Divers Marine Life Rescue.

A post on Devon seals in the wild‘s Facebook page:
“Please let us know if you see this seal or call British Divers Marine Life Rescue number – rescue line (no general enquiries please) 07787 433412 Thank you,”

A spokesperson for Devon seals in the wild said on their Facebook page:
“Hi, as some of you may have heard, there has been a tragic incident of an adult seal being shot with a spear/bolt type object near Brixham harbour.
The coastguard and marine mammal medics (BDMLR) have been trying to assist.
Any information regarding location etc and photos for ID and assessment would be extremely valuable at this stage and will be treated with absolute confidentiality.
We are hoping for a positive outcome, especially as a few of our local females are heavily pregnant at this time.
Thank you,”

Berry Head Coastguard had been tasked to help in the rescue of the seal, yesterday, 2nd September but unfortunately were unsuccessful.
