From 12th October till 31st October, J-Active will be raising vital funds for The Brain Tumour Charity, the UK’s leading charity dedicated to fighting this devastating disease, by selling online & offline Raffle Tickets.
Jordan & Jolanta from J-Active Fitness in Kingsbridge were inspired to hold J-Active Raffle by Jordan’s Dad. In May of this year Jordan’s Dad, Steven, started to experience headaches which no one expected to be anything more than a migraine, dehydration, or over exposure to the sun.
A few weeks later, Steven had been taken to the hospital after noticing that his balance was off and he was starting to lose feeling in his left side. After a number of necessary tests and scans, Steven had been diagnosed with a brain tumour. A few weeks later, he went for a major brain operation to remove part of the tumour followed by radiotherapy and other necessary treatments.
His condition is now stable and although he is limited to life in a wheelchair and requires 24/7 care, he is
working very hard towards improving his left side. Steven went from being a strong, physically active man to
being disabled & unable to do daily tasks without support. All in a matter of weeks. That’s all the time it took
for the tumour to take over his brain.
Jordan & Jolanta said: “We are really looking forward to holding this event for such an important cause, as it
is very personal for us, our family and friends. Without the NHS and various other teams, dad would not be with us today, and for that we are forever grateful. Therefore 100% of the money raised from Raffle Tickets sold during October will be donated to The Brain Tumour Charity. Dad is a massive inspiration for us and we want him to have some positivity during this hard time. We are inviting everyone to sign a Virtual card for him as we are planning to visit Dad at the end of the month and give him the card with all the well wishes. He will personally draw the prizes for all participants on our live stream.’’
J-Active is aiming to raise £1000 for The Brain Tumour Charity through Raffle Tickets where you can win prizes worth over £800, sponsored by 15 small and local businesses: Favis of Salcombe, Planet Warrior, Niesupelnie, Salcombe Gin, Bohoholistics, Sophia’s Massage & Beauty, Roots & Thyme, Dens Barbers,
Lottie’s Cup Cakes, Eolas+, PositiveInstinct, LuPhotography, Beauty by Gemma, Melissa Searle Life Coaching.
Raffle Tickets are available online via justgiving.com https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/j-active where every person who donates money will be given a raffle ticket (max 5) and offline during their fitness classes in October at Malborough Village Hall every Wednesday at 6pm and Saturday at 10am where everyone can get a raffle ticket in person. On 1st November at 12, the live stream will take place and Steven will draw the winners.
Geraldine Pipping, The Charity’s Director of Fundraising, said: “We are extremely grateful for all the efforts made by our fantastic fundraisers and wish them all the very best.
“Brain tumours are the biggest cancer killer of the under 40s and, unlike other cancers, survival rates have not improved over the last 40 years.
“We are leading the way in changing this and truly fighting brain tumours on all fronts through our work.
“We receive no government funding and rely 100% on voluntary donations, so it’s only through the efforts of people like J-Active Community that we can change these shocking statistics in the future and bring hope to the thousands of people who are diagnosed with a brain tumour every year.”
