Police in Brixham removed a knife from a youth in Brixham yesterday evening (31st December)

They posted a photo of the knife alongside a ruler on their Facebook page.

Posting “Postentially a serious incident prevented”

It has not been revealed why the youth said they were was carrying the 3.5 inch blade.

It is illegal to carry a knife in public without good reason – unless it’s a knife with a folding blade less than 3 inches long, eg a Swiss Army knife. It is also illegal to sell a knife of any kind (including cutlery and kitchen knives) to anyone under 18.

The maximum penalty for an adult carrying a knife is 4 years in prison and a fine of £5,000.

Just the day before, Brixham police had posted:
“No Crime reported in Brixham since Sat 27th Dec! Brixham IS a safe place to live,”
