From Little Acorns… Buddy Scheme in Torbay

What a superb contribution to our Community. The Acorn Centre in Torquay, recent winner of ITV’s ‘Peoples Millions’ is starting its very own Buddy Scheme.

For those who don’t know, the Acorn Centre started life as a youth centre for the young people of the area in the mid 60’s.

Over the years, with dedication and support from the community and partner organisations, the Centre has continued to grow and now offers  facilities that can be used by all ages from 0 to 90 years and beyond!

The Buddy Scheme will help anyone in the community who needs a little support and maybe a helping hand. Perhaps an elderly person who could do with some shopping doing, or maybe just a little company from time to time, for a cuppa and a chat?

New families move into the area and often feel isolated – a friendly face to welcome them and point them in the direction of some of the great things going on around the town, groups to join, places to see.

The Acorn Centre is running a Buddy Training Course on Tuesdays from 11am-3pm.  And best of all it’s free and includes lunch too. If you would like to get on board, and meet some great people yourself,  please call 01803 328819 for more information or to book a place.

You can find out more about the Acorn Centre here

Come on be that friendly buddy in the community – one day it might be you needing that little helping hand.
