Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust continues to deliver an excellent level of treatment and care for stroke patients within the region, according to the latest report by Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme (SSNAP).
The recently published SSNAP report, shows Torbay and Newton Abbot Hospitals continue to deliver a high standard of stroke care for the last quarter period, meeting the tough guidelines set by SSNAP.
SSNAP is the single source of stroke data for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The information published in the reports enables stroke service providers to plan and improve the care given to patients throughout their stroke journey.
The latest quarterly report shows that Newton Abbot Hospital achieved the highest score possible, obtaining an overall SSNAP rating of A, for both their Patient Centred Care and Team Centred Care. Torbay Hospital also received high scores by achieving an overall performance score of B for both their Patient Centred Care and Team Centred Care.
The data is gathered by looking at all stroke patients admitted to hospital, or who have suffered a stroke whilst in hospital and evaluating the services they receive. The Patient Centred Care scores are obtained by evaluating the care the patient receives from each team involved in patient treatment at any point in their care, such as the Emergency Department, the hospital stroke ward and rehabilitation. However, Team Centred Care can be seen as the care given to the patient within the stroke ward by the actual Stroke Services team.
Lesley Wade, System Manager at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The latest results from the Sentinel Stroke National Audit Programme are a significant achievement for all staff working within our stroke services and represent a lot of hard work and commitment, which deserves congratulations.
“Our stroke services teams do not work in isolation; they work with the support and input from a number of other teams, including: Stroke Audit team, Emergency Department, Radiology and the Bed Management team. Our thanks go to all our staff working to support stroke patients in Torbay and South Devon – this audit highlights what a fabulous job they are all doing.”
