Police have advised people living near the seafront and harbour area of Torquay to keep their windows closed following a major blaze this afternoon, Saturday 28 May.

Emergency services were alerted to a yacht fire at around 12.10pm.

Fire crews remain at the scene.

The yacht, which was well alight broke away from its mooring.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: “Due to levels of smoke and fumes we are asking residents in the area to keep their doors and windows shut at this time. Members of the public are also urged to avoid the area and beaches are being cleared by officers for public safety.”
