Man arrested after setting fire to cars in Newton Abbot

Person dies after being hit by a train near Dawlish

A man was arrested following an arson attack in Newton Abbot yesterday, 27th June.

Emergency services were called to Seymour Road at around 5.24am to reports of a man wearing army combats and a gas mask who had used to petrol to set fire to random cars in the street.

A spokesperson said on Newton Abbot police’s Facebook page:
“Within moments, members of the public restrained the male and called Police. At 0530hrs a male was arrested for arson and possession of an offensive weapon,”

“We would like to assure local residents that the male was taken to custody and subsequently remanded. A full investigation is currently underway.
“We would like to thank the brave members of the public who detained the male prior to Police arrival,”
