Multiculturalism at the Riviera Education Trust

From Riviera Education Trust:
At the Riviera Education Trust, we have developed our focus on promoting the children’s knowledge, understanding and experiences of multiculturalism. Each term, we have a Diversity Day which focuses solely on promoting Diversity and understanding of the world we live in.

On Friday 14th January, as part of celebrations for World Religion Day, each school across the Trust spent the day broadening the children’s understanding of religion, race, gender, culture and traditions.
At Oldway Primary School, we have celebrated the beliefs and insights of children from different faiths in our school, as well as the other main world religions. The children have developed a deeper knowledge and understanding of Muslims, Christians and Hindus, reflected upon the key values which these children share and linked these to our own values.
Children at Roselands have developed their understanding of the main religions through a number of different activities and discussions. The children have consolidated their understanding of Diversity by engaging in assemblies with Stephen Coles, from Paignton Baptist Church. Our Key Stage 1 children focused on the importance of places of worship to members of each faith. In Key Stage 2 the focus was on celebrations and festivals which included Diwali, Hanukkah, Sangha, Eid ul Fitr.

At Shiphay Learning Academy, we have developed our understanding of the six main religions. We have understood the core values and beliefs of these religions, whilst also reflecting on these religions in the context of Torbay, Britain and the wider world. We have then created our own pieces of artwork which represent our own identities and demonstrate our own families, communities and beliefs.
Across the Riviera Education Trust, we continue to promote multiculturalism and to embed an understanding of the world in which we live for all of our children. We inspire our individuals and their understanding of the world for a better society.
