The victim, named locally as David ‘Chewie’ Coxon was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 41-year-old Torquay man, believed to be known to the victim, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

Hundreds of people had attended the holiday park for a scooter rally.

Detective Inspector Mark Samuel, of the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: “Following the discovery of a man’s body, enquiries are now underway to establish exactly what happened during the early hours of this morning.

“I understand that the holiday park was busy at the time of the incident and I would urge any witnesses, who have yet to speak with the police, to contact us as soon as possible.

“All calls will be treated in the strictest of confidence.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 101 quoting incident number 5:40
