The Prime Minister has addressed the nation this evening, Sunday 10th April, with the key message being “Stay alert, control the virus, save lives”.

New rules for lockdown were announced, effective tomorrow:

-Anyone who can’t work from home, should be actively encouraged to go to work. This would include construction workers.

-Public should avoid public transport if at all possible with people encouraged to go by car, bike or walk where possible.

-Employers to get new guidelines to make workplaces “Covid-secure”.

-People now able to drive to destinations, play sports with family (from own household) and have unlimited daily exercise.

There will be increased fines for people breaking social distancing rules.

Mr Johnson “This is not the time to end lockdown this week.”

Phase 2 of the lockdown being eased, from 1st June at the earliest, hopes to see the reopening schools (primary years R, 1 and 6) and some shops.

Phase 3, from 1st July at earliest, hopes reopen hospitality services.

It has also been announced that there will be enforced quarantine on those coming into the country by air to prevent reinfection.

Mr Johnson thanked the public for their “patience and common sense”.
