New photos show scale of Torquay flats blaze

Photos taken this morning show the scale of the damage to a block of flats in Torquay caused by a fire early this morning, Monday 30th March.

The fire had spread to the roof

Fire crews remain at the scene at Hatfield flats in the Ellacombe area of the town.

Fire crews were called to the major blaze at the disused flats just after 1am.

Crews from across South Devon, including Torquay, Paignton, Newton Abbot, Teignmouth and Bovey Tracey attended the incident

The flats have been empty for a number of years.

Firefighters remain at the scene

Bronshill Road is partially closed and a large area cordoned off whilst firefighters remain and the scene.

Crews worked throughout the night. The fire had spread from the first floor to the roof, with crews using 6 jets to fight the fire.

Flames and smoke could be seen across the town.

It is not currently known how the fire started.
