New Rainbow Gingerbread Biscuits created to support the NHS go on sale at Tesco

Specially created Rainbow Biscuit baking kits for kids to help raise funds for meal packs for NHS workers and awareness for the NHS, are now on sale at Tesco.

All profits from the biscuits will go towards providing free, high-quality meals for key frontline NHS workers through SalutetheNHS.org, allowing the NHS to focus on saving lives during the COVID-19 epidemic.

Each pack contains a tube of white icing and a sachet of multi-coloured sprinkles which kids can apply to grooves in the rainbow shaped biscuits and then decorate as they wish.

Tesco food developer Kaysha Keane who helped design the biscuits said: “Not only will the biscuits raise money for meal packs for our heroic NHS frontline workers but they will also raise awareness among youngsters of the life-saving work being carried out by them.

“The rainbow has now become a symbol of hope and support for our brave NHS workers, especially for children who have been painting pictures to put in their windows.

“We hope that parents may also use the opportunity of helping their youngsters make the biscuits to discuss the amazing work being carried out by our NHS.”

Tesco will use all profits from the sale of the biscuits to go towards funding food in the SalutetheNHS.org meal packs.

The SalutetheNHS.org initiative provides nutritious ready to eat meals for ICU teams, anaesthetic workers and A&E staff who are unable to leave their clinical areas during their 12-hour shifts.

Tesco’s partnership with the SalutetheNHS.org initiative has seen between 100,000 and 160,000 weekly items of food such as yoghurts, cereal bars, soups, pasta meals, dropped off at the Bicester base from where the operation is run.

The food is then parcelled up into packages and dropped off by volunteers at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Tesco is also giving boxes of the Rainbow Biscuits to children at the Great Ormond Street Hospital next week.
