As Torquay United prepare to kick off a new football league season, the bay’s newest street has been named in their honour.
A housing development on the former Hatfield House site in Torquay, a short distance from Plainmoor Stadium, will create 43 new one and two bed apartments, including associated landscaping, access and parking. Last year suggestions for names for the new street were sought from local Councillors, with Cllr Hazel Foster suggesting it be named in honour of “The Gulls” Torquay United.
With work progressing the new street name sign has been installed and the road will be called “Gull’s Close”. A great move to symbolise the link between the Football Club and the local community it represents.
Commenting Cllr Hazel Foster said: “With the football season about to kick off its great to see the wraps come off this new street name. This development will not only provide much needed affordable housing for local families, it will also symbolise the link between the football club and the community with its name.”
“Since the takeover by the Bryn Consortium, Torquay United is a club reborn, ready to start the journey back to the Football League. I wish them every success and this sign of the community’s support is a great way to mark this moment in the club’s history.”
