Torbay Council will be continuing with their annual road resurfacing programme, with major road works taking place in Paignton in the New Year.
The works, that commenced in September and which are likely to continue until March 2018, are part of the authority’s structural maintenance programme and will cost £1.2 million.
Below is a list of where the maintenance will take place, with relevant information for residents, road users and pedestrians:
– Preston Down Road, Paignton (from Godfrey Avenue to Sandringham Gardens) – Monday 8 January with 7 weeks road closure. Traffic will be diverted along Sandringham Drive. Access to local shops will be maintained.
– Torquay Road, Paignton (from Langs Road to Preston Bus Shelter) – due to commence Monday 19 February with 6 weeks single lane closure. A two-way light system will be in place at the junction with Paris Road. Parking may need to be restricted on the shops side of the road to assist the flow of traffic, although this will be kept to a minimum.
These dates are correct at this time, but could change as some of the work is weather dependent. The works are to be undertaken by Torbay Council’s surfacing partner CORMAC Construction Ltd, who will inform all the affected residents and business in writing prior to commencing the work along with pre-warning signs placed out on the sites.
Executive Lead for Community Services, Councillor Robert Excell, said: “These annual works are important to ensure that our roads and footways stay safe for everyone that uses them.
“The Council are working to minimise disruption to our roads so please ensure that you make a note of the days in which your road or area is affected and allow extra travel time if you are using any of the affected roads as there may be some delays.”
Torbay Council have asked that if your road is affected and you are away from your property for a number of days while the work is taking place to please be mindful not to leave your vehicle on the street.
