Occombe Farm Shop is open; a new hub for a taste of the West Country’s finest!

The brand new Occombe Farm Shop is open!

Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust are excited to unveil their brand new, much larger farm shop at Occombe this week. The new Occombe Farm Shop is part of their regeneration mission to build a unique farm visitor attraction for Torbay with shopping, eateries and play.

The whole project was first unveiled some 2 years ago, in 2019. Since then TCCT has successfully remodelled Occombe Farm Café, launched a new Occombe Farm Shop and later this winter, will deliver a great new farm visitor attraction with play barn and animal trail.

Cath Cooke, Occombe General Manager said: “We are thrilled to be opening a new Farm Shop at Occombe. The Farm Shop is a fantastic new asset for Torbay and is part of our £2million investment in Occombe. Like Occombe Farm Café, proceeds raised through Occombe Farm Shop will help support TCCT’s conservation work caring for green spaces across the bay, and will be invested in improving Torbay’s coast and countryside”.

The new Occombe Farm Shop showcases the very best produce the West Country has to offer. A huge 75% of its products have been sourced from across the region. There is a massive 6,000 product range including fresh and wholefoods, wines, spirits, beers and ciders, bakery and deli, and lifestyle and gifts.

Lily Shaw, Retail Manager, Occombe Farm Shop said: “We are super excited to be open and have looked forward to welcoming visitors inside. Our vision is to provide a local farm shop with the best possible range from across the West Country. There has been a huge emphasis on sourcing local and regional produce. Our philosophy is to support independent suppliers from across the West Country and provide them with a one-stop platform to showcase their amazing products”.

Fresh fruit and vegetables are supplied by Newton Abbot based Pipers, local meats from Powderham Farm, ice cream and clotted cream from Langage Dairy. There’s a beautiful selection of seasonally grown, fresh cut flowers from local husband and wife growers Amelia’s Flower Farm too.

Honey has been sourced from a local one-man maker, Stones Honey, made from bees that live in Torbay. Look out for the range of preserves and chutneys from The Kitchen Garden, homemade in a Totnes kitchen; the traditional way!

There are some new and innovative initiatives instore too. Visitors will be able to buy Riverford Dairy milk and yogurt from dispensers. There’ll be gravity bins for dispensing whole foods and dried fruits. Freezers are filled with frozen products including a variety of fruits and cook-at-home pastries. For those nights when even the best cooks amongst us fancy a night off, there are Cook frozen ready meals. Special, because they are made using the same techniques we use at home! The choice of wine, beer and cider is local, regional and worldwide. There’s spirits too, some local; of course.

Occombe Farm Shop has loads more stories like these, you’ll just have to visit to uncover more! But the message is clear – Go Local!

The regeneration of Occombe is great news for Torbay and will deliver significant positive benefits. The Occombe development is not only providing a great new destination for local people and visitors but is also generating 60 new job roles for the local community too.
