Open day highlights NHS Apprenticeship opportunities

As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2019 (4-9 March), people of all ages are invited to Torbay Hospital to discover the wide range of apprenticeships available within the NHS.

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust (TSDFT), which is responsible for local health and care services, is hosting a drop-in event for prospective apprentices at the Horizon Centre, Torbay Hospital, on Monday 4 March (9am – 4pm).

The open day is an opportunity for anyone with an interest in the wide range of apprenticeships the local NHS has to offer. Information and advice will available from a wide range of professionals including the Trust in-house recruitment team who will help with applications.

Suzanne Hubbard, Apprenticeship and Widening Participation Lead at the Trust, said: “The Trust is committed to engaging with people who have an active interest in health care and the wider NHS. Having the apprenticeship programme enables us to grow our own talent by developing a motivated, skilled and qualified workforce.

“As the area’s largest employer, we want to help inspire people. Our open day provides a great opportunity to offer a valuable and practical insight on the apprenticeships available within our organisation. Some of our current apprentices will be on hand to share their experiences and explain what they gained from taking this route to achieve their career aspirations.

“An apprenticeship allows people at all ages to explore their potential in the NHS and we hope our open day will give a compelling insight into the career opportunities that apprenticeships can provide.”

The open day will feature information from the NHS Apprenticeship Service, South Devon College, University of Plymouth, health care representatives and the Trust’s Recruitment, Vocational and Clinical Education Team. Past and current apprentices will be avialble to talk to – allowing the students to gain a valuable insight into the apprenticeship experience at the Trust.

The Trust has over 200 apprentices working on qualifications in a wide range of roles from Healthcare and Business Administration to Digital Media, Human Resources and Customer Service.

Tierney Leaver, an apprentice in the Trust’s Horizon Centre Training Admin Team, said: “I was so pleased when I found out I had succesfully secured an apprenticeship within the NHS and my experience to date has even exceeded my expectations.

“I am now in my second year of my apprenticeship and thoroughly enjoy being part of the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust and see my future exploring all opportunities avalable to me within the organisation. I strongly recommend apprenticeships to anyone and to take the opportunity of coming along to the open day if they’re available.”

Anyone interested in apprenticeships, work experience placements and traineeships should come along to the open day to talk to Trust apprentices and staff who will be on hand throughout the event.
