Emergency services remain at the scene.

Devon and Cornwall police said: “Currently we believe that one person has sustained serious injuries.
We also have over a dozen people who have sustained minor injuries and remain at the scene.

“The South West Ambulance Service have declared this a major incident and therefore have sent considerable resources to the scene, including a number of ambulances, patient transport vehicles and the air ambulance for support.

“Police and Fire are also at the scene offering assistance,”

The road is expected to be closed for some time.

Kingsbridge Police said on Facebook: “Due to an ongoing major incident in Totnes, emergency services are massively stretched. Please only call if absolutely necessary. Go to www.dc.police.uk for ways to contact us.

“If an ambulance is not absolutely necessary, please use other methods such as finding your own way to hospital. Thanks very much”
