The theme will be ‘Pride of Place’, which aims to connect communities through a creative celebration of people and where they live, and will utilise the space between the shelves to stage different activities and offerings. The event encourages residents and visitors to come together to be creative, discover new talents, listen to performance and music, and above all have fun.

Library Lates have run four times in Exeter Library with hundreds of visitors enjoying the events.

Charlotte Harris-Sumner, Library Supervisor for Paignton Library, said: “We’re so pleased that Paignton has been chosen as the location for expanding Library Lates across Devon. The Exeter sessions have offered a warm welcoming space, a chance to get a glimpse of what goes on behind the scenes, great live music and an opportunity to share a drink and meet other people in the community. The space at Paignton will work really well with the same aim. We’re staging an affordable, fun night out in our town, and hoping to welcome music-lovers, local artists and the whole community. It’s like nothing we have done before, and will be giving people an experience you are not going to forget.”

Amongst the events will be:

-Live illustration by Torbay-based artist Yannis Nicolaou inviting audiences to take part in creating a collective mural representing the community
-A silent disco from Sound Communities
-Creative collage craft workshop
-Acoustic music from Matt Dean
-70s, 80s and 90s hits played by Schofield
-A badge-making workshop
-Bar and refreshments available to buy at Caffe Cosi.
-Faces Glitz & Glam festival face painting
-Cosmo the Magician

Library Lates will take place on Friday 19th May 2023 between 7.30 and 11.00pm at Paignton Library, Great Western Road, Paignton TQ4 5AG. Tickets are £8 (£6 concessions) and are available in-person at the library or through Eventbrite for over-18s only.
