Police say they are not treating the incident as suspicious.
Emergency services were called to an address on Longmead Road yesterday evening to reports of an incident.
Police and ambulance crews attended the scene and the area was cordoned off by police.
A 69-year old man was taken to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth with a serious injury.
Police say enquiries suggest the man fell and hit his head on furniture. They were initially concerned he may have been assaulted.
The man remains in hospital where he is being treated for a life-threatening head injury.
Police are not looking for anyone in connection with the incident.
