Emergency services were called to a fire at a flat in Melville Street, Torquay in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 7th June.
Police, fire crews and paramedics attended the scene just before 1am.
Two fire engines were mobilised to the incident , with fire fighters rescuing one person, who was then taken to hospital.
Devon and Somerset fire and rescue service said on their website: “On arrival firefighters reported smoke issuing and a person trapped.
“Firefighters wore 4 breathing apparatus and used one hose reel, a positive pressure ventilation fan and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish a small fire in the kitchen area of a first floor flat.
“Firefighters also rescued one person from the flat, first aid was provided until the arrival of the ambulance service. The ambulance subsequently took the casualty to hospital.
“Police and a fire investigation officer attended. The cause of the fire was recorded as deliberate,”
A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
