Phab charity elite global runner Ryan McGuire to participate in 2024 London Marathon

Phab, the UK’s leading national charity providing safe and fun places for all people with and without disabilities, has announced that one of its members, the elite global runner Ryan McGuire, will participate in London’s 2024 Marathon to raise awareness for the charity.

Despite being on the Autistic Spectrum with delayed development, living with Apraxia, and having limited speaking abilities, Ryan is one of the world’s top athletes, having achieved an elite-level time of 2:52:57 during the Chicago Marathon in October last year. Running is Ryan’s passion. Over the previous six months, he has consistently trained for the London Marathon with his Dad, Martin, in the hope of achieving another elite time between 2:45:00 and 2:48:00 in this year’s race.

Ryan’s intensive training sessions have involved speed work on Wednesday evenings, long Saturday runs, and regular exercises to strengthen his glutes, core and upper body. He will participate in the 2024 London Marathon with a guide runner, Darryl May of Raced Coaching.com, who was recommended to Ryan’s family by Phab runner and long-time supporter Craig Broadbent. Ryan’s Dad had the difficult task of finding a suitable candidate for the guide runner position who could keep up with the elite time standard Ryan is striving to achieve. Phab played a crucial role in finding the right person to support him.

 Phab Co-CEO, Dawn Vickers, commented,

“Ryan is a remarkable young man and a role model to all people. We are extremely proud of the immense effort he has put into the London Marathon, and we are supporting him throughout every step of his journey.”

 Phab Runner, Ryan McGuire, commented,

“I’m very excited to run the London Marathon for Phab, as I want to demonstrate that being disabled shouldn’t hold anyone back from achieving their dreams. I can’t wait to take part!”
