Plymouth-based brand Wiser helps keep local community warm with sponsorship of warm room

Wiser, the award-winning, Plymouth-based smart home heating brand, has pledged its support to the local Southway Community Group, funding sessions for its annual Warm Room service, and providing local residents with shelter, food and warmth.

The Southway Community Group CIC, which was set up to respond to the needs of 13,000 people in Southway and the surrounding areas, aims to create a community hub that enables local people to come together, promote healthy community relationships and enjoy activities.

Wiser, which is part of the global brand Schneider Electric, has been helping to keep the UK warm for over 70 years; to continue this longstanding practice, Wiser is sponsoring the running of the Southway Community Group Warm Room, allowing the community centre to provide for those in need.

The Warm Room service will be running at the Southway Community Café every Monday during the winter months, giving members of the community a warm place to be, a hot drink, or soup and a bread roll.

Anya, a volunteer at Southway Community Group, says: “The generous sponsorship from Wiser has meant we can be proactive, allowing people to come here and use the facilities if they are cold or lonely at home.”

“The people that come to use our Warm Room are here because their bills are too high, they find them confusing, or they are trying to avoid putting the heating on yet to save money during the cost-of-living crisis. We strive to create a safe, welcoming atmosphere for all, and the users of the room enjoy the community aspect it offers them, too.“

“The Warm Room gives residents a chance to meet others and get involved with some of the centre’s activities too, such as the wreath-making class we have coming up at the start of December.”

Denise, a local resident who uses the Warm Room, who is registered disabled and whose husband cares for her, says: “It has helped me build confidence, being able to meet new people, and if I have a problem I can speak to the staff. It’s a nice break from being at home and means we can save money on our energy bills.”

Jeremy Palmer, General Manager at Drayton, says: “It has been an honour to help such a worthwhile cause and bring warmth and comfort to the local community, especially in this difficult time where energy bills are high, and the cost-of-living crisis continues. We’re delighted to have been able to support Southway Community Group in supporting members of our local community who might be struggling.”

Wiser is the smart home heating system from Drayton, one of the UK’s leading heating control brands, and is proven to help cut your home’s energy usage and bills by up to 30% per year. Wiser knows all about British-made quality; all Wiser products are made in Devon, for the UK, and are renowned for their quality, reliability, and technical excellence.
