Police appeal for witnesses after fatal hit and run on Torquay Road

Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision on Torquay Road (A380) early this morning.

Police were called at around 1.30am today Sunday 26th July to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian on Torquay Road near to the Aller Brake Road junction.

A police statement said:
“On arrival officers found a male pedestrian having sustained fatal injuries, after being involved in a collision with a vehicle which has failed to stop.

“At this time the man, believed to be aged in his 30’s has not been identified but officers are carrying out extensive enquires to do so.

“Just prior to the incident police had received reports of a man walking in the road, from the direction of Penn Inn roundabout.

“The road was closed in both directions whilst officers from the force’s serious collision investigation unit carryout an investigation at the scene”

Diversions were put into place and the road was re-opened at 9.18am.

Police are appealing from information from the public, and in particular from anyone who was in the area at the time, and either witnessed the collision or saw the man prior to it.

Additionally, if anyone has any information regarding the vehicle involved or has any information regarding this incident please call police on 101 or 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk quoting police reference 309 260715.
