Police appeal for witnesses after shop assistant threatened with knife

Police in Torquay are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Barton on Wednesday 5th August.

A man, believed to be in his late teens or early 20’s, went into E&M stores (Fore Street) at around 7pm, threatened a female shop assistant at with a kitchen knife, demanding money from the till.

When the assistant activated the panic alarm, the man fled empty handed, He made his escape on a BMX bike, which has a distinctive bright green saddle. The suspect is described as wearing a blue hoodie with the hood up and tied with distinctive thick white cord. He was wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and dark shoes.

The member of staff, a woman in her 40s, was alone in the shop at the time and has been left shocked and distressed by the incident but unharmed.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident or anyone who was in the area at the time. If anyone has any information please contact police on 101  or 101@devonandcornwall.pnn.police.uk quoting police reference CR/054555/15  or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
