The collision involved a Ford Fusion and a Mitsubishi L200 Trojan.

The driver of the Ford Fusion was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police posted to their website:

“The Ford was heading up Milestone Lane from the direction of Chudleigh. It was believed that the driver’s intention was to go across the crossroads.

“Priority at this crossroads was for the Mitsubishi. This vehicle was heading from the direction of the Whiteway Estate towards Chudleigh. Weather and road conditions at the time were believed to be dry with good visibility.

“For reasons unknown at this stage, the Ford has edged its way out into the middle of the carriageway at the same time that the Mitsubishi was approaching the crossroads. The crossroads is situated on the exit of a left hand bend for the approaching Mitsubishi. As the Mitsubishi has rounded the bend it has come upon the Ford mid junction and a collision has occurred with the Mitsubishi hitting the Ford about the “B” pillar. The vehicles have come to rest a short distance further up the road. The 60 year old female driver of the Ford was pronounced deceased at the scene,”

The road was closed whilst the accident was dealt with and officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Team attended the scene. Police are appealing for further witnesses to come forward, call 101 quoting log number DCP-20161116 – 0486.
