Police have said there was a ‘suspicious white transit type van was seen nearby which drove off when challenged’.

It is believed the weapon used may have been a .22 rifle.

A spokesperson for Ashburton and Chudleigh Policing area – Teignbridge said on Facebook:
“There is a possibility the lamb was killed for its meat however it had recently  treatment for blow fly and anyone eating the meat would be putting their health at risk.

“If you know anything about this crime please contact the Police.

“Please let us know if you are offered meat from an unknown source, these killings of animals are not a victimless crime and they pose a serious health risk.”
