Two police officers have been injured following an incident in Kingsbridge.

Police were called to an address in Retreat Close, Kingsbridge at around 4.30pm today following threats made by a man in the area to another resident.

Two police officers attended the scene and both sustained injuries. One officer has received a serious arm injury and both officers subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.

A police cordon was set up and the area evacuated as negotiations with the man took place.

Police entered the property at around 8.30pm and safely brought the incident to a close.

A 53-year-old man is currently in police custody following the incident.

During the incident, Inspector for South Devon Adrian Leisk said: “The immediate vicinity has been evacuated and the area cordoned off, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this ongoing incident, but we do ask that the public remain clear of the area to allow us to undertake negotiations safely and without distraction.”

Updates to follow.
