Police warn businesses to check for counterfeit money after woman arrested

Police in Newton Abbot have warned businesses to check all bank notes after a woman was arrested who was suspected of passing suspected fake £50 notes at shops and licensed premises in the town centre.

The woman was arrested and was taken to Torquay custody centre.

Posting on Facebook, Newton Abbot Police said:
“Newton Abbot Police have today responded to assist NAST (Newton Abbot Security Trust) in the apprehension of a female, who was passing suspected fake £50 Scottish Notes in retail and licensed premises within Newton Abbot Town Centre. Thanks to the swift actions of the NAST security and CCTV operatives, local Officers from Neighbourhood and Response Policing teams, were able to arrest the female and she is currently in Torquay Police Custody Centre awaiting interview. 

We would like to remind all local businesses in South Devon to take time to check all bank notes for authenticity and to report any counterfeit notes to us on 101,”
