Pop up the High Street, which is located in Union Street Torquay, offers independent retailers in Torbay the chance to experience life on the high for just £30 a week. This provides home businesses or companies with an online presence the opportunity to have a ‘real world’ physical retail space, without the expensive overheads or risk.

Torbay’s Executive Lead for Business, Cllr Richard Haddock, said: “Following overwhelming success of traders in art, manufacturing and craft, the project is now giving food retailers the opportunity to learn their trade on the high street. Torbay and South Devon is home to specialist food manufacturing and wholesale market leaders. This gives fledgling businesses the chance to set up, test their product and realise their potential.”

To date, Pop up the High Street is Street has given nearly 30 retailers the opportunity to have a high street presence, receive valuable feedback and gain a better understanding of their target markets.

The project is aimed at new businesses or those without a physical presence on the high street that would like the chance to experience what it takes to become a successful retailer.

In addition to the retail space, each tenant is offered free business support and advice from Business Advisor Liz Edwards whilst retailing in the Pop up.

Liz Edwards said: “We have seen a fantastic range of retailers in the shop and each tenant has gained valuable knowledge from their experience. We would now love to have some food retailers in the shop to diversify even further.”

All food retailers are welcome to apply but products must be pre-packaged and must not need refrigeration facilities. All products must not contain alcohol.

To apply to become a retailer at Pop up the High Street visit www.PopuptheHighStreet.org or contact Liz Edwards on Liz.edwards@tedcltd.com or 07771 974565
