Porpoise dies after getting stranded in Torquay

The coastguard received a callout to reports of a porpoise stranded in Torquay  earlier this evening.

The Harbour porpoise had become stranded at Torre Abbey Sands, despite efforts by rescuers, the porpoise died.

The coastguard were joined by the British Divers Marine animal rescue team but unfortunately the porpoise passed away before the arrival of a vet.

Harbour porpoises are the smallest and most common cetaceans in European waters
