Proposal to close Brixham Road for four months from January 2023

Due to the start of the Inglewood development on the outskirts of Paignton, Torbay Council has received a request from the developer to close Brixham Road, between Long Road and Windy Corner for up to four months from 3 January 2023. The request is for a range of highways and drainage works to take place to support the new site, that will include homes, a primary school and a pub.

The Council is currently in discussions with the developer to find the best solution for their residents and businesses and to agree how these works can be carried out with the least amount of disruption possible.

To inform these discussions, the Council would like to hear how this proposed closure might impact local businesses, their customers and residents moving around the Bay. The Council would also like to hear ideas on what could be considered to reduce this disruption.

To provide your feedback on this, visit the engagement webpages by midnight on Sunday 20 November 2022. These webpages will be kept up to date with the next steps and the outcome of the application to close the road.

Force the developers to build a temporary road around the back of the development. Everyone happy, except the developers who will be making a fortune anyway.

However you decide to divert traffic, I hope you have a budget to fix the surrounding roads of the pot holes, I’m sure more traffic will mean a worse surface. Goodrington Road is terrible, so I hope you do not plan to make this your diversion route, without repairing it first.

A temporary road or works closures between 7pm and 7am only, surely. You can’t expect to shut the main route from town to town forcing all traffic onto smaller residential roads!

How about the developers pay compensation to the area for all the inconvenience to us all.

Council should of done all this before they granted planning permission
Make them build a road at the back of the development so it doesn’t interfere with the day to day running of everyone.
We have enough hold up with traffic in the bay at this present time without anymore
