Fire crews remain at the scene of a major fire in Stokenham this morning, Monday 26 September.
The fire has destroyed a pub and three residential properties.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after midnight.
Police have reported that there were no significant injuries.
Kingsbridge police state some residents were evacuated, with the village hall in use.
“We were called just after midnight about a thatch fire at the Tradesmans Arms pub in Stokenham, near Kingsbridge.
“The fire is believed to have started in the kitchen and has affected the pub and three terraced thatch properties. All people have evacuated and we currently have 12 fire engines at the scene. Firefighters in breathing apparatus are currently tackling the fire to bring it under control.”
Fire crews from across the area attended the incident including Torquay, Paignton, Ashburton, Buckfastleigh, Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Newton Abbot, Salcombe, Totnes and Ivybridge.
Kingsbridge Police posted on social media: “A fire has destroyed 4 residential homes and The Tradesman’s Arms, Stokenham.
Other than minor smoke inhalation, there were no significant injuries.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service remain on scene to dampen down and investigate the cause of the fire.
The main A379 is now open but be aware of personnell operating in the area.”
