From Monday 15th June the public weighbridge at Tor Park Road, Paignton will reopen for commercial customers.
The weighbridge had been closed since the lockdown and its reopening follows the reopening of the Recycling Centre last month. A weighbridge is a large set of scales used in the waste industry to weigh vehicles and measure the amount of material they are carrying. The new opening hours for the weighbridge will be Mondays to Fridays from 8.30am to 3pm.
Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “We are pleased to be able to work with TOR2 to reopen the public weighbridge safely following the shutdown.
“Unlike the main Recycling Centre, where you still have to book an appointment first, the public weighbridge does not need to be pre-booked. On arrival though, you will need to inform the site team at the main gate that you wish to use the weighbridge.
“You will need to wear a hi-vis vest when out of the vehicle and we’re not currently able to provide these due to COVID-19 restrictions, so you will have to bring your own.
“Don’t forget as well, if you do need to use the Recycling Centre to dispose of any of your household waste or recycling, you will need to book that in advance.”
Using the public weighbridge:
On arrival you must inform the site team at the main gate that you wish to use the weighbridge. You will be directed to the weighbridge for your vehicle to be weighed, and whilst this is happening you must remain in the vehicle at all times.
Controls will be in place to allow you to approach the weighbridge for payment when instructed.
Where possible electronic payment method is preferred (though we will not turn cash payments away).
On site staff will direct you where to unload.
Please bring your own hi-vis vest and wear it when you are out of the vehicle – if you do not have one you will not be allowed to unload and will be asked to leave.
Social distancing will still need to be maintained at all times for both the safety of the operational staff and customers who wish to make a visit.
