Update: Enquiries continue. Coastguard and search and rescue teams were stood down in the early hours of this morning.
The boy is believed to have been with a group of friends. It is thought he may have entered the water around 6.30pm.
Acting Sgt Rowe told the BBC there was a “possibility he may have taken some sort of [formerly] legal high which has had an adverse effect on his behaviour and caused him to behave quite irrationally”.
Police are currently searching for a teenager who has possibly jumped into the River Dart in the Totnes area.
It is thought the 16 year old male may have jumped into the river at Swallowfields and got into difficulties.
Police, fire service and coastguard are in attendance.
The male is described as white, slim build with blonde hair and had no clothes on.

If anyone near the river sees this male or notices anything can you immediately call 999 and quote log 775 05/08/2016
