As the cost-of-living crisis continues to affect families across the UK, with many parents struggling to afford Christmas presents for their children, Rowcroft Hospice is asking the local community to donate good quality pre-loved toys and games to its shops. These will be sold to provide affordable options for families looking for exciting Christmas gifts, helping to ensure that more children can open presents this festive season, while also raising vital funds to provide end-of-life specialist care for local patients

According to new research conducted by the global data and insights company, Pureprofile Limited, around 32% of UK consumers expect to spend less this Christmas, buying fewer presents and finding cheaper food alternatives. For some, buying toys for their children is out of reach this year.
Caroline Wannell, Rowcroft Hospice’s Head of Retail, said:”Christmas is always a special time for families, but with the cost-of-living crisis many parents are faced with added financial strain that will force them to make heartbreaking choices this Christmastime. We’re asking for donations of good-quality, pre-loved toys so we can offer families affordable gifts that bring joy to children while relieving some of the financial burden. We’re asking people to have a toy clear-out pre-Christmas, and donate high quality items that would make a lovely Christmas gift for a child.
“Our request for donations coincides with the Charity Retail Association’s Give Good encourages people to donate saleable items to charity shops, rather than throwing them away, when they are decluttering ahead of Christmas. It is about making thoughtful, mindful donations of items that are clean and in great condition.”
Donations of toys and other items such as books, ladies’ and men’s clothing, jewellery, accessories and homeware can be dropped off at Rowcroft’s 15 shops across South Devon.
It’s important that the items are of a high standard, ensuring they can be sold as festive gifts, ready to find a new home under someone’s Christmas tree.
“We’re so grateful for the generosity of our supporters in donating goods to our shops,” added Caroline. “Not only are your donations providing much-needed, affordable Christmas gifts for local families, every item that’s sold helps us continue our work of caring for local patients who are facing the hardest of times this Christmas.”
The Charity Retail Association’s Give Good campaign runs throughout November. It highlights the importance of reusing and recycling during the festive season. This approach supports Rowcroft’s ongoing aim to raise funds for its patient care while promoting sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of unwanted goods ending up in landfills.
