Rowcroft has one charity place for the London Marathon 2016 and is opening its own Marathon Ballot to fairly decide who should be given the sought-after spot.
This year marks the first time the hospice has had its own charity place for the iconic challenge.
The announcement that the hospice is opening its own ballot coincides with the week entrants of the public ballot are informed whether their bid has been successful.
Hayley Norrish, Community Fundraising Manager for Rowcroft, explained: “This year’s London Marathon public ballot had more entries than ever before, so competition for places was hot!
“We are delighted to have one charity place to give to anyone who is disappointed not to have got a place via the public ballot, or others who didn’t enter the ballot but would like to take on this incredible challenge for their local hospice.”
The successful entrant will be required to complete the 26.2 mile route through central London on 24 April 2016 and is asked to raise a minimum £1500 sponsorship for Rowcroft.
Hayley added: “Every year there are a number of people lucky enough to get a place in the London Marathon via the public ballot who choose to raise sponsorship for Rowcroft, and we are incredibly grateful for their support.
“This year though, we are delighted to have our own official charity place and look forward to supporting all those running for team Rowcroft with their fundraising efforts.
“Everything they raise will go towards helping local families living with life-limiting illnesses to make the most of the time they have together.”
James Hughes, who raised vital funds for Rowcroft by taking part in the London Marathon in 2015, said: “Running the London Marathon was an incredible experience.
“The training was hard and the marathon gruelling but nothing beats that feeling of crossing the finish line, hearing the cheers of the crowd and knowing what a difference you’ve made to an amazing local charity.”
To enter the Rowcroft Marathon Ballot, simply email your full name, address, email and telephone number to Hayley Norrish hayley.norrish@rowcroft-hospice.org.uk by Friday 30 October 2015. The ballot will be drawn on Wednesday 4 November and the winner will be required to pay a £50 entry fee.
