Seafront diversion after road collapses

Further Update: The road is now open, ahead of schedule.

Update: The road will remain closed until Friday.

A road in Preston has been closed after it collapsed today.

Part of Marine Drive has been closed near the junction of Colin Road.

Diversions are in place, motorists are be warned there may be delays.

A spokesperson for the council posted on social media:
“Marine Drive, around the junction of Colin Road, has been closed due to a road collapse.

“Diversions are in place, from Torquay these will take you along Eugene Road and Torquay Road and from Paignton the diversion will take you along Torbay Road and through Paignton Town Centre.

“Investigations into this collapse are taking place but it is currently unknown how long the road will be closed for. Updates will be sent out as soon as they are available.”
