Torbay remains in an emergency response mode following the damage caused by severe weather, but the council is planning for the recovery phase.
Many of our sea walls and coastal defence infrastructure have been damaged and there are areas of Torbay that are still flooded. People are advised to keep clear of areas that are clearly in a dangerous state; they will be fenced off as soon as is practicable. There’s also coastal clear-up work being undertaken so coastal roads can re-open.
On Torbay’s highways, all of the main and secondary routes are moving, and residential roads are now thawing out. Rising temperatures and rain should lead to all roads being accessible today, but the situation is being closely monitored to determine if and when more gritting is required. Gritting bins are also located across Torbay and local communities are being encouraged to make full use of them to treat roads and pathways if it is needed. Torbay Council would like to thanks everyone who has already been using this facility.
There are still abandoned vehicles on our roads and motorists should recover them as soon as they safely can. Parking enforcement will recommence at 10am on Monday 5 March to give people who work outside of Torbay the opportunity to get to their vehicles.
Also on Monday TOR2 will communicate their household waste collection recovery plan with details of when bins should be put out for collection.
Temperatures are rising and the snow is slowly thawing, but the current advice is not to travel to Dartmoor or other higher ground areas where there is still snow and roads remain dangerous.
