Three South Devon people been chosen from thousands of proud glasses-wearers as regional finalists for Specsavers’ Spectacle Wearer of the Year.
Zack Richards, Sarah Bow and Lindsey Wileman could take home £10,000 and have the chance to mingle with the stars at the annual Spectacle Wearer of the Year Awards.
The three were among glasses-wearers across the UK and Republic of Ireland who showed off their specs style by sharing their selfies online throughout the spring and summer.
In recognition of being chosen as South West regional finalists, the lucky three received a bottle of champagne, a certificate and a £150 glasses voucher.
Zack and Sarah went to the Paignton Specsavers store to receive their prizes, while Lindsey went to the Teignmouth Specsavers store.
Zack, who is 19 and from Paignton, said: “My Mum submitted my photo and nominated me, so I’ve got her to thank for me being a regional finalist.
“I think the competition’s all about being comfortable with who you are and with the style you have. I’m really pleased to be a regional finalist. It’s a huge surprise and a real honour.”
The awards were launched by Strictly Come Dancing star and TV personality Oti Mabuse earlier this year.
Sarah, 35 and also from Paignton, said: “I’m amazed to be a regional finalist. I nominated myself after seeing that you could also donate a £1 to charity.
“I never thought I’d get this far in the competition. For my glasses, I’ve always gone with a look that suits me and that I’m comfortable with, and it’s got me here!”
The competition winners will meet Oti Mabuse and rub shoulders with many other celebs at the glitzy awards ceremony at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue in October.
Lindsey, who is 37 and from Teignmouth, said: “I’m thrilled to be a regional finalist. I really never expected it. My glasses are part of my look. I love wearing glasses. People should embrace glasses as part of their lifestyle.
“I try to instil in my nine-year-old daughter that it’s nothing to be conscious about and that she should be confident when wearing her glasses.”
There are eight competition categories, including a social media winner voted for by the public.
