Shoppers paused their shopping and big crowds gathered at Fleetwalk and Union Square Shopping Centre to enjoy the festive songs performed by the choirs competing to be crown South Devon Christmas Choir 2016. ‘Quay Harmony’ combined a great mix of modern and traditional carols and ‘Upton Vale’ sang some beautiful harmonies, but in the end it was the fantastic energy of the ‘Spires Singers’ from Spires school that clinched the title.
This event marked the finale of Christmas By The Sea for this year. There have been four weeks of free fun festive activities. Each week saw a different theme and activities have included festive crafts, a silent disco, pop up theatre, storytelling and shadow puppet workshops. Alongside these activities scores of people followed the festive trail of art installations running through the town. From the light up ships at the Tourist Information Centre at the harbor, along to the shadow puppet film at fleet week, across to the camel at Union Square and up to the beautiful community created mural outside the town hall.
The events are part of a three-year project commissioned by Torbay Council, with funding from the Coastal Communities Fund, kindly sponsored by Ocean BMW and supported by Fleetwalk, Union Square shopping centre and Sound Communities.
