Successful Torbay Jobs Fair continues to grow

Torbay employers who are actively recruiting are taking a free stand at the Torbay Jobs Fair in Torquay on Friday 8 March which falls during National Apprenticeship Week.

Due to the success of the Jobs Fair it is now taking place at The Riviera International Conference Centre to host more businesses and candidates.

Delivered by TDA in partnership with Torbay Council and JobCentre Plus, this free event has become one of the most popular ways to recruit staff, providing local businesses the opportunity to talk directly to up to 700 candidates.

Devon and Cornwall Police, NHS, MIDAS and South Devon College are just some of the businesses who will be recruiting on the day.

Torbay’s Elected Mayor, Gordon Oliver, said: “This event continues to grow and delivers excellent outcomes for the businesses and people looking for a new job in Torbay. In October, the Jobs Fair helped generate 311 job interviews, matching job vacancies with skills to create 60 jobs outcomes. The event welcomes businesses across all sectors and we are looking forward to seeing more of Torbay’s growing businesses get involved.”

In October, just under 700 candidates met with 71 employers from across Torbay, who shared permanent, temporary and apprenticeship opportunities with their company.

Connor Conneely, Economic Development Officer at TDA, said: “There will be live vacancies on offer, from local employers across all sectors including hospitality, care, construction and retail. We welcome anyone looking for employees to fill their permanent, temporary and apprenticeship positions.

“This event provides a great opportunity to build on our strong links with employers across the region to actively increase employment opportunities. There is a real commitment from our business community and service providers to pull together and make this event a success and help people secure employment. We are working hard with local employers and we are keen to hear from other employers in Torbay who would like to take part.”

TDA will also be showcasing the range of business support it provides to local employers to help them develop, grow and take on more employees. Jobcentre Plus Work Coaches will be available throughout the day to support and help people with CV’s. Job applications will be available in Torquay Jobcentre.

Marzenna Seares, Employer Adviser at Jobcentre Plus, said: “Every Jobs Fair held over the past four years has been very successful, with thanks to the quality of the businesses across Torbay. Due to the continued growth and success of this event, with more jobs being created and more employment opportunities, we are delighted that this March sees us moving the venue to the Riviera International Conference Centre, also supporting National Apprenticeship Week.

“When our Partnership Manager and I first met with the Mayor we discussed events and jobs fairs and where they could take place. The Mayor made us aware of available funding, which enabled the Torbay Jobs Fair to start and develop to what it is today.”

The organisers are keen for employers to promote any active vacancies they may have at the time of the event, and in the run up to Easter and summer to help seasonal recruitment.

Connor Conneely continued: “We received overwhelmingly positive feedback from the employers and candidates who attended the October Torbay Jobs Fair. With a good mix of candidates, who were suitable to progress to interview, the employers are looking forward to attending again.”

People who are looking for work can just turn up on the day. Advice is to come early, be prepared to speak with employers face to face, have questions ready and bring copies of your CV.

Following the Jobs Fair there is a free information seminar for businesses to learn about the benefits of apprenticeships. Find out more about apprenticeship week and the event www.tda-business.com/national-apprenticeship-week
