Teenager arrested following knifepoint robbery in Shaldon

A teenager has been arrested following a knifepoint robbery at a gift shop in Shaldon last week.

The incident happened at a shop in Ness Drive around 5.30pm on Friday 17 August.

Staff members were threatened with a knife by a person covering their face, He demanded cash and staff handed over around £400 from the till and he made off on the bicycle.

No-one was injured in the robbery but staff members were left very shaken by the incident.

An 18-year-old from Shaldon has been arrested on suspicion of robbery. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Police are investigating and are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone who has information about the incident.

Detective Constable Tim Lavercombe, of Newton Abbot CID, said: “This is a serious, cowardly and desperate act, and detectives are considering all possible lines of enquiry. We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or saw a man on a bicycle acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the offence.”
