Teignmouth Morrisons support Rowcroft’s first men only event

On Saturday 16 March the men of South Devon will be stepping out in support of their local hospice, walking 8 miles across the South West Coast Path and surrounding areas of Torquay. The Male Trail covers a number of conveniently located “watering holes” and ties in with the final day of the RBS 6 Nations Rugby.

The walk finishes in time for kick off of the final game of the day, England Vs Scotland, which will be shown across big screens at Torquay Rugby Club. All finishers will be welcomed back with a free pint to enjoy during the game, and a well-deserved hot pasty. There has been a real local buzz about the event and Kerry Popple, Manager of Morrison’s in Teignmouth was keen to get Morrison’s involved with supporting the event in a unique way but donating 600 pasties. Kerry explains:

“We feel privileged to be lending our support through the power of pasties in such a landmark event for Rowcroft! The ladies Sleep Walk has been such a popular event for years and it’s amazing to see a male equivalent now available. Supporting our local community hospice is very important because none of us know if we will ever need Rowcrofts’s services, or if a member of our family may need their care and support one day. It’s such a special place and it wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for all the amazing fundraising efforts from people across South Devon. By covering the costs of the pasties we hope Rowcroft can get a little bit closer to reach their fundraising target for the event.”

This style of event has proven to be successful with other hospices in the South West such as St Luke’s in Plymouth and Hospicecare in Exeter. Rowcroft Events Manger, Stewart Molyneux said “We are thrilled to have Morrisons, Teignmouth on board with The Male Trail. Yes, our Rowcroft events are all about fundraising, but it’s really important that our participants have while they are taking part and making sure they have a heart pasty at the end of an 8 mile walk before they watch the big game is all part of that. We are truly grateful to receive such a big gesture of support. ”
