Temporary suspension of roadworks in Torbay

As a result of government advice surrounding Covid-19 (Coronavirus) Torbay Council has taken the decision to suspend its major planned highway works. The Surface Dressing and Micro Asphalt programmes have been delayed for an undetermined period but will be carried out as soon as practicably possible.

Works on the already commenced site on the A379 Babbacombe Road will continue, as the site team is very small and they are able to operate adhering to the distancing guidance and for as long as supplies to site are maintained, however this will continue to be reviewed.

Councillor Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture for Torbay Council, said: “This does mean that a number of planned roadworks across Torbay have to be postponed, but the first priority has to be the health and safety of our residents and workers. The government has been very clear that all non-essential work should stop and that where possible people should stay in their own homes to prevent the further spread of Coronavirus.”
