Tender for custom and self build homes development partner

A tender to identify a development partner for a custom and self build homes scheme on Council owned land near Newton Abbot has been given the go-ahead by Teignbridge Executive following a successful soft market testing initiative undertaken at the end of last year.

A number of developers expressed an interest in delivering the innovative scheme which will involve investing in creating a scheme of up to 20 custom and self build homes on a site on the edge of Newton Abbot with far reaching views of the Teign Estuary.
The planning consented site, is located within the new neighbourhood planned next to land identified for the Houghton Valley Park to the north west of the town.

Once the infrastructure is in place, the developer could then link with a housebuilder to construct the customised homes based on a number of design options or enable plot purchasers to build their own home.
Interested developers can still get involved in bidding to invest and undertake the work by registering their expression of interest with the Council by noon on 28 January with the tender submission 19 February.

Executive Member for Planning, Cllr Gary Taylor said: “We are pleased that despite delays to this project last year as a result of the impact of Covid-19 we are now able to offer a more flexible scheme and that our market testing work has revealed positive interest. I encourage further developers to register their interest in accessing the tender pack.

“This custom build site is an important element in the mix of new housing provision in and around Newton Abbot and will see the development of a quality-led residential scheme of 10 to 20 homes of which at least 20% will be affordable homes for local people”.
The tender timetable envisages a development partner being in place later this year and you can find out more by emailing selfbuild@teignbridge.gov.uk

To take part in the procurement process register your interest by searching for Teignbridge District Council in the latest opportunities on the portal www.supplyingthesouthwest.org.uk, and select ‘Howton Field Custom Build Homes’.
