The Big Band Era Returns to Palace Theatre

The Palace Theatre will welcome The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra to their stage in Paignton on Friday 8th July, to celebrate the golden age of big band and swing. The big band will perform favourite swinging tunes from the era including Moonlight Serenade, Little Brown Jug, Pennsylvania 6-5000 Take The A Train and One O’Clock Jump to get audiences In the Mood.

The Palace Theatre, the English Riviera’s oldest working theatre, once hosted the world-famous American band leader and musician, Glenn Miller during the second world war when he entertained US troops stationed in the area, ahead of the D-Day landings. Maureen McAllister, operations director of Jazz Hands says: “We are so looking forward to welcoming The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra to the theatre and for our local audiences and visitors to enjoy a great, foot tapping night out.”

The two-hour show, directed by Band Leader Kevin Cunningham, features the very best musicians, with credits ranging from BBC Big Band to West End theatre bands, as well as outstanding vocalists with classic arrangements, spectacular solos and a choreographed brass section. The Moonlight Serenade Orchestra as The Glenn Miller & Big Band Spectacular will perform for one night only as part of their 2022 tour and will recreate the million-sellers of the 1940s and 50s. The music that filled the dancehalls during the Big Band era is brought to life with classics including chart toppers, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorset, Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and many more.

The Band Leader says “Audiences can expect a fun, high-energy wall of sound from a 13 to 15-piece American style Big Band playing the numbers that everyone knows and loves. Swing is for everyone as proven by the huge popularity of Strictly Come Dancing, Peaky Blinders and the many Blitz Balls that are held every year.  Keeping the music alive for new listeners to discover and come to love is important to us all and I know that comes across in our shows”.

To find out more about the show and to buy tickets please visit the Palace Theatre website www.palacetheatrepaignton.co.uk or call the box office on weekdays 11am to 3pm.
