The English Riviera Wheel makes a welcome return to Torquay this weekend, marking the 10th year of this iconic summer attraction in the Bay.
Standing 100 feet tall at its location in Princess Gardens, the popular attraction provides passengers with a bird’s eye view of the English Riviera coastline with 360-degree views across Torquay Harbour and beyond.
To mark its 10th year, owners of the wheel, the Mellor Group have also pledged a £20,000 donation to Torbay Council for improvements to and landscape enhancements around the War Memorial, as part of Torquay’s Town Investment Plan.
Cllr Mike Morey, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Environment and Culture, Torbay Council, said; “We are thrilled to welcome the Wheel back to the Bay. The wheel offers an exciting experience for the entire family and has become iconic part of Torquay’s seafront throughout the summer season which is loved and enjoyed by many.”
James Mellors, Operations Director at Mellors Group, said: “We are excited to announce that the English Riviera Wheel will be reopening this April – just in time for the warmer seasons.
“Following our launch in 2012 it’s been great to see the progression and development of the stunning gardens over the years. This year, in addition to our ground rent we will donate £20,000 towards the restoration and refurbishment of the Listed War Memorial, something that’s very close to our hearts.
“So, with more sunshine on the way, there’s nowhere better for the whole family to enjoy the Easter Bank Holiday. We can’t wait to welcome back both residents and visitors to the English Riviera Wheel once again”.
Coinciding with a packed programme of events and festivals, and royal celebrations this summer, the Wheel marks the beginning of what is hoped to be a memorable year for residents and visitors to the Bay, as COVID-19 restrictions are finally lifted across England on 1 April 2022.
The English Riviera Wheel opens on Saturday 2 April 2022 and will be open daily from 10am until 10pm Monday through to Saturday, and 10am until 8pm on Sundays.
