After surviving the covid storm Torbay Half Marathon is pleased to be planning for a bumper event for 2022 and happily back in its usual date of June.
The ever popular event has been running for over 30 years and in that time has raised thousands for local charities including various grass roots sporting organisations, Rowcroft Hospice and Torbay Holiday Helpers Network. Last year saw the introduction of a new race, the Torbay 10k, which proved hugely popular and 2022 sees the return of the family fun run providing something for everyone.
On Sunday 26th June the event will start and finish on Paignton Green with a traffic free route to Torquay seafront and back again the event is proudly organised by Torbay Athletics Club. The team have secured the sponsorship of local nursing and care agency Ocean Healthcare, thus renaming it the ‘Ocean Healthcare Torbay Half Marathon’- this support enabled the event to invest in a new brand and website last year and hopes to further improve the runners experience. Other local generous businesses offering their sponsorship and support include Kitsons, Lovells Sport, Bays Brewery, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Ocean BMW. The run is traffic-free and takes in stunning views of Torbay and runners from all over the country can finish their race with a post-run dip in the sea!
Children and families can also join in the fun by entering the Fun Run- a one mile lap of Paignton Green- fancy dress is welcomed and runners are encouraged to get sponsored for a charity of their choice should they wish.
Race Director, Greg Fine is delighted to see the event return in full: “Last year we were delighted to have held tight throughout a turbulent year and postponed to September- it was a great success and we saw 1500 runners take part in both events but are looking forward to a bumper year this year with the return of the family Fun Run too. We are so grateful to the continued support of Torbay Council and so many local sponsors who make this event possible and enable us to continue to help local causes raise funds. We encourage runners to not leave it too late and sign up today!”
The event relies on a huge number of volunteers to ensure the route is safe and well managed. Volunteers aged 18 and above are requested to get in touch via the website if they can spare a Sunday morning.
