RGB Building Supplies has chosen Torquay-based charities The Beacons Dancers, Hector’s House Cat Rescue, and Totnes-based Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship as finalists in its Surprise Supplies giveaway and it’s now down to a public vote to see if any of the charities are chosen to receive £1,000 worth of building materials.
The Beacons Dancers is made up of people who use wheelchairs, walking sticks and frames. It is part of the Wheelchair Dance Sport Association and meets weekly for dance lessons and to have fun with music. The charity is based at Abbey Hall in Torquay and also runs an arts and crafts group which is open to everyone to help combat isolation and loneliness. The hall is lacking toilet facilities and, if voted as a Surprise Supplies winner, the charity will use the £1,000 to purchase materials to update a toilet block that would be used by able-bodied people.
Hector’s House Cat Rescue was set up in 2020 and predominantly helps stray cats who, through no fault of their own, cannot easily be housed, or need to be reunited with their owners. The charity is formed of volunteers who have experience working with cat rescues and a have a passion for strays. Hector’s House needs to build new cat pens and update some of its existing pens, and would use the donation of materials to do this.
Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship provides equine-based therapeutic and educational activities to disadvantaged, disabled and excluded young people in order to increase health and well-being and guide them towards more positive life outcomes. The charity has recently passed an assessment to rehome two rescue donkeys from The Donkey Sanctuary. However, it does need to build a new shelter before the donkeys can arrive and would use the £1,000 towards materials needed for the project.
Little Hero in Cadeleigh, West Cornwall Search & Rescue and Wings South West in Bideford have also been chosen by RGB as Surprise Supplies finalists.
Mike Curtis, Branch Manager at RGB Torquay, where the charities would use the £1,000 donation, commented:
“The Beacons Dancers, Hector’s House Cat Rescue and Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship all provide such fantastic services in our area. As the local RGB branch to all three charities, we want to encourage people in our community to show their support and vote.”
The vote will take place between Monday 15th and Monday 29th November. Votes cast outside these dates will not be counted. Only one vote per person via one method of voting will be counted. Votes can be made by visiting RGB’s Facebook page and liking the photo in the Surprise Supplies album that represents the group being voted for, or by emailing RGB@pmwcom.co.uk and putting the name of the group in the subject line.
The two finalists that receive the most votes will receive £1,000 each to spend at their local RGB branch.
